The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Wing, also called the BJP Information Technology & Social Media Cell, is a dedicated organizational arm of the Bharatiya Janata Party responsible for managing the party’s digital communication, online outreach, and social-media strategy. Over the past decade, it has become one of the most influential political tech units in India, playing a central role in shaping digital narratives and mobilizing support at scale.

Origins and Purpose

The BJP IT Wing emerged in the early 2000s as the party recognized the growing importance of the internet for political communication. With the rapid expansion of internet access and social-media usage in India, the wing gained prominence around 2013–14, coinciding with the BJP's rise in national politics.

Its primary goals include:

Coordinating the party’s digital messaging. Driving online campaigns and countering political narratives. Engaging supporters, volunteers, and the broader public through social media. Harnessing data analytics for voter outreach and sentiment analysis. Supporting election campaigns with targeted digital content.

The BJP and Modi ji ran a tech-savvy campaign that engaged voters directly.
In important states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, what the campaign mangers did was collect huge database and they worked on reaching out directly to the people.
Modi used holographic technology to address multiple audiences simultaneously across India. A 3D life-like hologram of the politician was projected onto stages at a staggering 3500-4000 events in just 45 days.
Modi ji’s unique digital events like ‘Chai pe Charcha’ are unprecedented election events that put the political leader directly in touch with people at tea stalls in villages at publicized localities through a combination of satellite, DTH, internet and mobile.
